GEOIDE is supported by the Government of Canada through the Networks of Centres of Excellence programs
Funding OpportunityTo Promote and Enhance Scientific ResultsWorkshops and Publications, GEOIDE NetworkJuly 2010 - December 2011The GEOIDE Network of Centres of Excellence is continuing its support for the research community. This initiative seeks to promote the results of prior GEOIDE projects, particularly those funded in Phase III (2005-2009). GEOIDE will accept proposals to support workshops (and other forms of meetings) and publications (special issues or other outlets). The GEOIDE resources available should not exceed $20,000 (or 60% of the cost) for a workshop, and $5,000 for a publication. There is no deadline or target date, and submissions will be treated in order of submission until funds allocated are exhausted. GEOIDE's Research Management Committee will review submissions, and will render a decision on funding with approximately one month turn-around. Funding will follow as soon as possible, but proponents should allow at least two months prior to the event. Under the Workshop categoryGEOIDE expects to support events that attract substantial interaction between GEOIDE researchers and their partners/affiliates in government, industry and other sectors. Invited participants from outside Canada who have committed to attend will enhance the priority of the submission. Graduated students from past GEOIDE projects should be included, in as far as possible. Priority will be given to workshops and seminars that lead to a publication in some form, particularly those with significant peer-review and accessible to many. In addition, these events should make a contribution to current issues. Following the event, a three page report plus five pictures will be expected, along with a financial report approved by financial services of the principal researcher's institution. This material will be used by GEOIDE to promote its activities. In the Publication categoryGEOIDE wishes to support the costs of publications of past and current GEOIDE projects or activities. These may be the costs of special publication needs, such as color illustrations in journals, or extra page costs for specific articles, monographs, or books or they may be the costs associated with a special issue of a journal. GEOIDE expects some participation of past or current GEOIDE students. GEOIDE expects to receive a soft copy of the publication and a hard copy whether it exists. GEOIDE will also need a two page report, along with a financial report approved by financial services of the principal researcher's institution. Individual researchers or teams of researchers with an interest in either form of support can submit a letter as described below. Proponents must relate their submission to the research in a GEOIDE project, and also with respect to current issues of importance. GEOIDE wishes particularly to demonstrate the current value of projects undertaken in the past. Engagement of past students is of particular value. Please send your submissions (as attachments) by e-mail at: submit@geoide.ulaval.ca. If a confirmation is not received within a week, please follow up with the GEOIDE Business Centre. GEOIDE anticipates funding as many as 5-7 workshops and 4-5 publications through this announcement. Submissions will be accepted until funds are exhausted; first come, first served. There is no target date, but the workshops should be held before 31 December 2011 and publications published before 31 March 2012. Eligibility: The lead researcher must be registered as a GEOIDE Network Investigator, in any Phase of GEOIDE. Funds will be distributed according to granting council guidelines to University Members of GEOIDE (for eligible costs see: http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Professors-Professeurs/FinancialAdminGuide-GuideAdminFinancier/FundsUse-UtilisationSubventions_eng.asp).
