ABOUT > MISSION

Who are we?
GEOIDE (GEOmatics for Informed DEcisions)

GEOIDE has been funded by the Networks of Centres of Excellence program (NCE) since 1999. GEOIDE brings together many of the country's leading experts from universities, industry and government agencies to conduct world-class research to enhance the lives of Canadians. In addition, GEOIDE promotes international collaborations with similar organizations worldwide.

Our mission:

GEOIDE distinguishes itself as a world-class research programs manager in the field of geomatics. It delivers a strong network and a unique multi-disciplinary research partnership to government, industry and philanthropic leaders. GEOIDE's operations generate substantial benefits to society and the economy.

In particular, GEOIDE wishes:
  • To drive the research and development of new geomatics technologies and methods via multidisciplinary collaboration in a fully networked environment;
  • To engage the Canadian industry as a full partner in the research and development needed to support the location-based economy that is emerging;
  • To identify new areas of opportunity for geomatics as an effective enabling technology and pursue research in these areas;
  • To engage both new and existing communities of research and development both domestically and internationally including those concerned with the environmental and social relevance of information and equity in a broader context, such as the medical and social sciences, the humanities;
  • To accelerate the development of the training infrastructure needed to ensure the delivery of the highly qualified personnel necessary to the economy, and train a generation of new personnel to support the current market expansion;
  • To deliver new methods and technologies in geomatics that have emerged from all the Network's different phases, both as marketable technologies and as enabling tools for government and for social benefit in the public domain;
  • To ensure that the Network leaves behind a permanent legacy towards building a sustainable society beyond the lifetime of its NCE funding.
